It’s stampede time! Stampede has always been one of my favorite times of the year because for 10 days, Calgary becomes a rootin tootin cowboy party. Most people dress up in western duds and partake in lots of fun events that are held all over Calgary! Here are some things you have to check out this year! Make sure to check out what you can do to Plan Ahead!
Calgary Stampede Parade
The Calgary Stampede Parade kicks off the Calgary Stampede, and is always a wonderful show. It ususally takes about two hours from start to finish, and is full of lots of different floats, bands, and entertainment. My kids love the parade, and are always entertained for the entire time!
Calgary Stampede Park
There is so much to do at the stampede! Be sure to check out the amazing food on the midway, as well as all the rides and games! There is something for everyone at the Calgary stampede.
The Indian Village offers a wonderful look inside the Aboriginal population of Alberta and their traditions and culture. Be sure to check out the beautiful teepees that are set up! They also have lots of different entertainment going on their stage.
The BMO Center is one of my favorite places to hit because there are always lots of new vendors selling lots of cool treasures. It’s also a great place to hide if the grounds are getting too hot for you!
Every year, I love looking at all the livestock being housed at the stampede. It’s pretty cool to look around and see all the cattle, horses and sheep that are being housed during the stampede for the different competitions!
I love the rodeo. Real cowboys strutting their stuff as they try to beat the clock as they rope steer, ride broncs and bulls and compete in other jaw dropping events. The rodeo is held every day at the Calgary stampede, and is definitely worth the price of the ticket! A bonus is that if you do decide to buy a ticket to see the show, admission to the park is included!
Chuckwagons and Grandstand Show
Every night, you can check out the chuckwagon races and grandstand show, followed by an impressive display of fireworks. The chuckwagons are really fun to watch, and I really enjoyed cheering on the chucks as they rounded the race track. The Grandstand show is full of amazing talent, with lots of different types of entertainment that keeps you on your seat throughout the evening.
Coca Cola Stage
Be sure to check out the Coca Cola Stage, as it has lots of amazing bands that play, and the concerts are included in the price of admission!
This is the place to be if you’re looking for a good time at the grounds. It’s good old country music at it’s finest and is definitely a great party! There is also lots of great live music playing on the Nashville North stage, so be sure to check this place out.
One of my favorite parts about the Calgary Stampede is the pancake breakfasts. Businesses all over the city offer free breakfasts of pancakes, bacon and sausage for anyone who is willing to show up!
These are only a few highlights of the Calgary Stampede, so be sure to check it out! You don’t want to miss this amazing event!
