I am always looking for new activities to do with Jack, and for Valentines day, we decided to decorate some cookies. I had a feeling that Jack would have lot of fun icing the cookies, but I was very happy to see how much he loved playing with the icing.
Since we were at a cabin in Saskatchewan, I had to make the cookies ahead of time. I made Cream Cheese Sugar Cookies, which Jarrett loved. I also bought the icing and sprinkles so that I didn’t have to bring all the icing tools and ingredients in our vehicle. If you ever find yourself on vacation like camping or out at a cabin, I definitely recommend pulling out this activity. As long as you prepare everything ahead of time, its really easy to do. Of course, this is a fun activity to do anytime. I’m actually thinking of pulling it out for Jack’s birthday party in July.
The day before we left for the cabin, Jack and I made the cookies. Like a lot of our kitchen adventures, he helped me add the ingredients and then we sat down and cut out the cookies. Jack really loved picking out which cookie cutter to use and pushing it into the cookie dough. Did the cookies look perfect? No. But Jack had lots of fun and in the end, as long as they taste good, it doesn’t really matter what they look like. If you don’t have time to make cookies, you can always buy plain sugar cookies from the store and decorate them pre-bought.
On Valentines day, I pulled out the cookies and the icing I bought. They all had tips on them so that Jack could use them without any help. He ate just as much icing as he put on the cookies, but that’s ok. He definitely had lots of fun! I helped him with the sprinkles because I didn’t want them dumping everywhere, but he still loved picking the colors of the sprinkles he wanted. As an added bonus, we had a delicious snack for the rest of our trip once we finished decorating our cookies!
We will definitely be doing this again!
